Then I copied the Thunderbird folder in 'C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\' to a USB key and renamed the folder on the USB key to 'Thunderbird(roaming)'.

I moved Thunderbird to a new Windows 10 computer (from an older Windows 10 machine) over the weekend and although this might be overkill it worked flawlessly for me even having both multiple profiles and accounts in Thunderbird.įirst I made sure that Thunderbird was up to date and I checked my mail on all profiles and accounts before closing Thunderbird. Is there a way to change this to IMAP without setting up a new account in Thunderbird?ĭo I have to change all of my email accounts to IMAP? Tried to do that, but although I changed the server name to (port 993), it still says Server Type: POP Mail Server.

I found instructions for setting up a new IMAP account in Tbird, but I just want to change my existing account from POP to IMAP. I poked around the Thunderbird support section and it sounds like the problem could be that I have the account setup for POP3. It's a gmail account - but I have other gmail accounts, and I can check for email on those with no problem. I tried re-entering the password and it still didn't work. I'm positive I'm using the correct password, because it works on my old PC, and it works when I use webmail. It says sending of password did not succeed. Tbird can check all of my many email accounts except for one - and of course it's my main email account. Thanks!!! I uninstalled Tbird on the new PC (figured I needed a fresh start after all the fiddling around I did) and copied the Thunderbird folder files to the correct location.įired up Tbird and all of my junk was there.
